Welcoming her baby far from home: early detection of postpartum depression among migrant mothers

The study assesses depressive symptoms and the experience of pregnancy and postpartum in newcomer non-French speaking migrant women. The postnatal home visit took place 3 months after delivery. The majority of women reported high anxiety during pregnancy and a feeling of loneliness and isolation after the birth of the baby. In comparison to non-depressed women, depressed women lacked marital and family support. The results stress the importance of the implementation of preventive psychosocial and culturally sensitive measures for migrant women during pregnancy and the first months after delivery.

Keywords: accompaniment, EPDS survey, evaluation, longitudinal study, migrant, postpartum depression, prevention, risk factor.
